The state of Idaho's principal racetrack is situated at Les Bois Park in Boise. It boasts a history of racing lasting over 40 years, holding its first meeting in the early 1970s. That inaugural meeting took place on 15th May 1970 on what was then known as Boise Fairgrounds racecourse. Within 3 years the track was renamed Le Bois Park Racecourse on 23rd May 1973 and is, today, a 6 furlong oval dirt track with separate 2 furlong and 5 furlong chutes, sharing a 200 metre home straight. Racing is administered by Les Bois Park Racing, and profits are ploughed back into racing for the people of Idaho. In the early years of the new millennium things were not looking good, and racing did lapse after the meeting on 16th August 2008, but returned on 2nd July 2011. The highlight of the racing season is the running of the Idaho Cup Derby, part of two spectacular race days which include the Idaho Cup Sprint, Futurity, Juvenile, Distaff Derby and Idaho Cup Classic. |
